Pierce J. Hancock, Jr., (Jack), was a partner in Hancock & Harwell, a rare coin and precious metal brokerage firm founded in 1976 serving investors, collectors and the financial services industry, passed away on Sunday November 14th around 1:00 PM after attending a Baltimore coin show. Jack was doing what he loved best; he was headed to figure a deal.
Jack's funeral was attended by hundreds of friends and over 30 coin dealers from all over the United States. The crowd was so large that many were not even able to get in the church.
The standing room only service took place Friday, November 19th at 11:00 AM at the Saint Paul Methodist Church, 404 Washington Street, in Gainesville, Georgia, 30501.
The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Saint Paul Methodist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Hancock was a numismatist for almost 40 years and a full time coin dealer for nearly 30. Mr. Hancock was the chief coin buyer for Hancock & Harwell Rare Coins since 1976. He was a specialist in dealing with coins of special rarity or quality and known as "the authority" on U.S. gold coins struck at the Dahlonega, Georgia Mint. He served two terms as President of the Georgia Numismatic Association.
He was a life member of the American Numismatic Association and an authorized dealer for both the Professional Coin Grading Service, Inc. and Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Jack has been involved in the purchase and placement of numerous Mint State and Proof 65, or greater, coins and coins of special rarity or quality to come on the market, including the famous and Unique Pattern Indian Head Double Eagle U.S. Gold Coin.

Bob Harwell his partner said, "It is hard to lose a guiding light. Jack and I have known each other since Happyland Kindergarden. We traded coins in Gainesville in the mid 1950's as well as participated in Cub and Boy Scouts, football and golf together. Then came real coins in 1976. I am losing a friend, partner and someone that I could trust with anything I own.
